How to Find the Correct Turkish GTIP / HS Code
Why a global HS code may not be enough for Türkiye and which technical facts determine the correct 12-digit Turkish GTIP.
Check One Product →SHORT ANSWER
Türkiye uses a 12-digit GTIP. A supplier’s 6- or 8-digit code is useful evidence, but it is not automatically the Turkish classification. Classification begins with what the product objectively is: material, function, operating principle, composition and presentation at import.
What should be checked?
- Write a neutral technical product definition before looking at the tariff.
- Determine material, components, operating principle, intended use and principal function.
- Apply the tariff wording, Section/Chapter Notes and General Rules for Interpretation.
- Compare plausible alternative headings and identify the fact that separates them.
- Use BTB and international classification decisions as references; seek a Turkish BTB when binding certainty is required.
Evidence to prepare
- Technical catalogue and drawings
- Material/composition statement
- Product and packaging images
- Existing HS rulings or customs history
- Function and operating-principle explanation
